NuBurger sits on Stradbrook, near the corner of Osborne, deep in the heart of the Village.  We know Osborne Village for its eccentric shops and quirky restaurants, and Unburger fits right in.  The outside looks like a typical Osborne Village character house that’s been window-fied to be chalet-like.  The triangular exterior hides a slick, bleached-white interior that looks hospital-sterile.  The order counter overlooks the equally slick kitchen where you can see burger patties flying on and off the grill.
All you find on this menu are burgers, be they of beef, bison, chicken or vegetable base.  Each version offers unique dressings or toppings and you can interchange the patties on a number of the options.  Surprisingly absent is a plain burger without anything fancy, although you can order a cheddar burger, hold the cheese.  I later find out that they just call this a burger.

The patty itself can be variable—I’ve had it where they’re cooked perfectly and juicy and other times when they’ve been overcooked and dry.  Even overcooked, this isn’t a bad burger.  The outside of the patty always comes charred and caramelised (but it’s just so much better when the inside’s still juicy).  Depending on what burger you order, the patty may not matter much.  Many of the burgers come with so many fixings, you may not even notice that there’s meat within the conglomeration.
Most of the burgers I tried come sloppily dripping and by the time you finish, your hands look like you just dipped them into a bucket of paint—grab lots of napkins because you’ll need them.  The Drunken Aussie left me dripping from places that I didn’t think could drip, meanwhile, pieces were falling out from all sides of my burger.  While I love the multigrain bread, it’s not nearly robust enough to contain the ingredients.  Many people will resist this burger because of the beets but the thinly sliced pieces add a lovely texture and impart little more than an accent of a taste.  If the burger isn’t sloppy enough already, they top if off with an over-easy egg that oozes yolk all over your lap.  À la the French croque madame ham and cheese sandwich with an egg on top, I find everything tastes a little bit better with some yolk.

I also love the Mango & Curry dressing, either with chicken of subbed with beef.  The dressing tastes so good, I frankly don’t care what meat is here, or if there’s any meat at all.  The dressings, the vegetables and the bread all come wonderfully fresh and crisp, doing their part to yield a superior burger.

The burgers usually come pretty quickly but time goes by faster if you’re gnawing on some wonderfully fried yams that taste sweet, crisp and not greasy.  Otherwise, you can reminisce with a Coke in a twisty bottle or enjoy one of their local beers or competent wines.
