Approaching the host, I ask if I can get in an out in a half hour, since I have a show to make. She asks the manager/chef/owner/whatever who promptly says that if I order right away, they'll get me out in time. The host seats me with a menu and send the server over. She fills my water glass and asks if I want anything else to drink. I asked to place my food order right away.
So she leaves.
I'll call myself Table 1. She approaches the next table, let's call it Table 2, and follows with Table 3, then 4 and eventually every table in the area. Emerging from behind the bar, she comes with wine and beverages for Tables 2 to infinity.
Making her way around again, I expect her to take food orders. Inexplicably, she starts at Table 2 and proceeds again to Table Infinity. Afterwards, she disappears behind the bar, presumably to forward the food orders--without mine.
She reappears behind the bar and casually starts to fold dinner napkins! The host approaches her and says something. I'm hoping that she's telling her that Table 1 is in a rush. The server drops the napkins and comes back into the dining room.
I must be invisible because she starts all over again at Table 2.
Seeing 12 of my 30 free minutes evaporate without having my order placed yet, I resign that I'll have to end up without dinner before my show.
It will be a long time before I come back to Corrientes for dinner before a show.
