Dim Sum Garden - Pembina Highway Location

North Pembina is now the new Chinatown and Dim Sum Garden was one of the first to set roots here.  As with many Chinese restaurants, this one uses the obligatory garbage bag plastic for tablecloths.  I guess I can understand why since it didn’t take very long for us to spill a cup of tea on the table.  We asked a server for a cloth and she completely ignored us.  We poked at her for her attention and she merely glared at us.  We asked for a cloth to clean the table and again, she treated us like we were toadstools on a stump.  We pointed at the spill; she looked, turned around and left—back to her usual activities.

The service here is atrocious.

Even during our numerous trips to the counter to get napkins for the spill, no other server offered to help clean the mess.

Onwards, after we ordered our food and the dishes started coming, a different server piled the plates haphazardly onto our table.  Quickly, we ran out of room but the server continued to put plates down, including one that half hung off the side of the table.  Perching precariously on the edge, this dish was destined for the floor, until I grabbed and saved it.  The server never said a word as she looked at me move the dish.

I feel like we’re treated like animals here.

Service aside, the food tastes ok.  The pork dumplings have great flavour and the spring rolls tastes deliciously stuffed with a nice combination of pork and vegetables.  The beef balls, the rice noodles and the Chinese perogies tasted quite bland and needed some seasoning.  The pan fried pork dumplings and the chive dumplings also tasted nice and the honey garlic chicken had great depth and texture.

In the end, it didn’t matter.  The service was so abominable here, I could not enjoy the food.  I can’t imagine coming back here and paying to be treated like crap.

The food itself would have merited three stars but as is…
