There’s no habanero in their tacos—that’s for sure. In fact, I wonder if there’s any pepper at
all because of the absolute lack of heat.
I’m not saying that it’s bad; I just expect some heat when the word
“habanero” appears in your company name.
I try the three meat combo to have a sampling of all their
offerings. Starting with the pulled pork,
which comes finely shredded, almost mashed, I find that there’s a lacking in
flavour. It’s supposed to be marinated
in a Mexican marinade but I don’t find much.
The chicken tastes a bit more flavourful, although there
isn’t quite enough to get a full punch of what it tastes like. All the tacos come with coleslaw according to
their menu, although this looks like a pico de gallo, which is even
better. It provides a crunchy texture,
but it’s also the predominant taste here.
The tomato and onion taste very fresh but again, there’s no heat to be
found.
The beef is my favourite, with plenty of flavour and most
reminiscent of what Mexican tastes like.
Coupled with the pico/coleslaw, this is a lovely taco.
All the condiments, including a selection of hot sauces, are
available at the window. It’s sometimes
a bit of a pain to hang out and load up, but for me, it’s worth it.
