The last time I ate here, they served me a mouldy bun. That in itself was a huge statement since we
all know how long bread lasts, given all the preservatives in the making. That was a shame because everything else
about it tasted quite good.
Coming around again, mould is the first thing on my radar,
and thankfully, they’re clear. The pork
belly bun calls my name because, who doesn’t like pork bellies? The pork belly cut inherently has a lot of
fat. As much as I love pork fat, too much
over anything can be overwhelming. The
fat needs to be trimmed from the pork bellies before this can be served. They neglect to trim, leaving the sandwich
with a hyper-greased amount of fat.
Having this much fat, this rendition also needs some sort of vegetable
condiment to cut through the grease. I
would like to see the seaweed in here as that would be a perfect partner to the
Asian hoisin sauce.
Big compliments go out to the visual presentation. These hot dogs truly look like pieces of art
and it's almost a shame to bite into them.
Granted, you pay for the labour; at $10-$12, it's quite a bit to
pay. After all, it's still a hot dog,
but for the price, you get a piece of art and probably one of the best hot dogs
available.
Kyu has a great marketing niche here. They already have a number of wonderful
combinations available. Some refinements
would make these divine and decadent food options.
